The eleventh-century Basilica of San Clemente al Laterano is a Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to Clement I. It sits atop a three-tiered series of architectural remains stretching back to the Republican period. The earliest phase is represented by the foundations of a building destroyed by the fire of A.D. 64.
