Velitrae (modern Velletri) was an ancient Volscian settlement. In the Roman Republican period, Velitrae was attacked by Marcus Furius Camillus (379 B.C.) and again by Cincinnatus (377 B.C.); the Romans controlled the site by 365 B.C. The gens Octavia hailed from the city and a youthful Octavian spent time there.
